The solar panel must be installed in a well-lit location where it can receive maximum sunlight during daytime hours. Any cover that shades the panel will affect its ability to absorb sunlight and decrease the amount of brightness and duration of the LED lights. The lights and solar panel box are all weather devices. They should not be affected by exposure in rain, snow or temperature. Install the stake into the ground until it is firmly in place. If the ground is too hard, soak the area with water to soften it. Please ensure that the solar panel is pointed toward the sunlight. At least 6 hours of exposure to sunlight is required for illumination. Although the solar panel will continue to collect energy in cloudy, rainy or snowy days, it will diminish the ability to accumulate energy and the duration of the illumination. I bought 10 packs of these. They all worked great at first, but after 1 month, 3 of them are dead. Weird thing is, only about half of the strand is dead on each one. A 30% failure rate in a month seems crappy to me, so I give 2 stars.
5 months later, 5 out of 10 are dead. Junk.
We used the to light a large wreath on our driveway gate. They worked great - they automatically come on when it gets dark and they go off at sunrise. They charge during the day and repeat. You can choose between solid or flashing or just turn them off completely. The solar panel isn't very large so we were able to hide it behind the wreath nicely. It charged during the day even on cloudy days and ran all night.
Do not buy these lights unless you live on the equator, where you will have plenty of sunshine everyday. Most days in December (here in Alabama, at least) it is overcast...which means your Christmas lights will last about 2 hours each night. No matter how I've positioned the solar panels, these lights seem to last a couple hours before fading quickly into darkness. Next year I won't be a Scrooge and actually pay for good lights.
Works reliably so far after 3 months (December - March) and still going strong. We live in the sunny Southwest so the lights get a full day of sunlight most days, a few cloudy days in a row and they may not get a full charge but they seem to catch up again once the weather clears.
I like the variety of different patterns for flashing, there's one that's a soft twinkle which is very pleasant, or just plain steady light.
I got these to replace the battery operated lights in my garden gazing ball. They put on quite the light show and I have had several people stop and ask me about them. I like the fact, I can move the solar charger part, to a sunny location a little ways, away from the globe. And yes these have a blue tint to them.
These are very pretty lights, and while they lack the ability to control their pulse pattern, they make up for it in elegance and cost efficiency. My only criticism is that they are hard to power. They are solar lights, but you need some serious sun contact for hours to get these to last more than 2 hours. I live in the woods, so at any point in time, it's only around 3-4hrs of direct sunlight, and that powers it 1-2 hours at night. Only buy these if you get a lot of sunlight where they would be displayed.
I just love these solar lights! Purchased 2 strains & DO NOT REGRET IT. I plan on buying more, they have 2 settings & stay lit untill 6AM.
They make the back yard fencing stand out nicely at night where there is no electrical outlet available.
I am really pleased with these lights! We placed them down on our front gate where we have no hope of running electricity... and they work great! We live in the Pacific Northwest, so our winters don't get much sun, but even with a partially sunny day, the lights twinkle for most of the night... and with an actual sunny day, they are still going strong in the morning. I'll be buying more!
I bought two sets of these and two sets of Apexpower brand. This is a better light. By morning the Qedertek lights are still lit. It charges even on cloudy days, whereas the bushes with the Apexpower brand are barely lit. If it is a toss-up between these two brands, this one wins, hands down
